The Case of Silica Gel Desiccant for Freeze Dried Cat Treats

Nov 18,2022 | Bond

In June 2022, we received an inquiry from Germany.

Hello, have a nice day, we are a company focus on pet treats, and now we try to find desiccant for our new product line, it was freeze dried chicken, if you have good idea about it, please email us, thanks in advance.

Before we go any further, we need to know the Freeze Dried process and why something needs desiccant after Freeze Dried.

Freeze drying, also known as lyophilization, is a form of dehydration. Food like fruit and chicken is at low temperatures frozen to remove their water content. It is widely believed that freeze-drying is the best drying method because it can preserve a product's nutritional value, taste, and appearance while extending shelf life. As such, it is a common practice in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Freeze-drying is one of the typical snacks for cats, catering to their meat-eating nature, but we must pay attention to prevent moisture during storage; otherwise, it can also become moldy and spoiled.

This customer freeze-dried was in sealed plastic jars. We recommended a small packet of silica gel desiccant for him. Although the cat couldn't read, its owner needed to know it couldn't eat, so we customized the desiccant packaging for him in German with a German version of Do Not Eat.
